This is an enjoyable Celtic rock album that is a must-have for those who love this genre. Prydein has always ranked high for me on the list when it comes to a serious vibe, and this CD, “Heads Up” really rocks the house. Right out of the box with the first track, “Devil in the Kitchen”, you know this isn’t going to be your typical Celtic rock band. The sound rings out like an anthem–it gets you going.
This album is chock full of good stuff, including a cover of the J. Geils band song, “Centerfold” – Celtic style. Bet you didn’t see that coming! Songs such as “Whiskey You’re the Devil” provide a more traditional sound, but the rock feel is still present and accounted for. You’ll hear highland bagpipes play alongside the guitar here, and the blend of styles is seamless. Feels like it was meant to be.
Make sure to hit “The Drunken Piper” when you check this CD out – it’s the highlight of the album for me. I enjoyed Prydein’s last effort, and find that on this CD they have grown and developed into a force to be reckoned with in the Celtic rock field. I can say with confidence that if you like this genre, you’ll enjoy this mixture of tunes here as much as I did.
