Brizeus is an innovative pipe and drum band, led by acclaimed piper, EJ Jones. The name Brizeus is a play on a name for Dionysus, and the band focuses on music of dance, revelry, and festival. Brizeus performs original, traditional Celtic, and Medieval and Renaissance European music. These traditions come together to make an energetic show that is melodic, rhythmic, tuneful, and true.
Brizeus is a group of pipers, drummers, and string players based all over the USA performing Celtic, historic European, and original folk dance music at outdoor festivals. We try to look the part from modern Highland games to historical festival to bellydance convention and will field a band of 2-6 players depending on the needs of the event. We sometimes play unplugged with just pipes and drums or with a PA into which we plug in a bouzouki and more bagpipes, flutes, smallpipes, and bombard. We jump around a lot. We’re always in tune. We teach dances to folks who want to learn.
